American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) stepdown position requiring an active IL license, BLS, and NIHSS certification.
Responsibilities- Position is located in a hospital-based PCU/IMC/Stepdown unit
- Patient population includes cardiac, neuro stepdown, post-cardiac procedure, renal, orthopedic, plastic surgery, and respiratory cases
- Staff will manage a range of specialized procedures such as cardiac monitoring, rapid response, post-angiogram care, and neurosurgical recovery
- Uses Cerner for charting; Cerner experience is preferred
- Level I trauma center, Magnet facility, teaching hospital environment
- Work schedule is night shift (3x12 or 4x12 hours, 18:45–07:15), with every other weekend required
- Floating within scope to similar units as needed
- Duties include interpreting and managing dysrhythmias, emergency response, post-cardiac procedure care, hemodialysis management, and advanced airway and IV therapy skills
- Must be able to provide care to complex neuro, orthopedic, and trauma patients
- Must follow isolation precautions and perform wound care including wound vac management
- Scrub attire can be any solid color
- No on-call responsibilities
- Parking permit is required but provided at no cost
- Must discuss block scheduling with the manager if needed
- RTO should ideally not exceed 5 days
- Active IL RN license required at time of application
- Minimum of 1 year recent experience in telemetry, neuro stepdown, or stepdown/IMC required
- BLS and NIHSS certifications required; ACLS preferred
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and management, rapid response, cardiac and vascular procedures, and management of ventilated patients
- Experience with Cerner EMR is preferred
- Teaching hospital, Level I trauma center experience preferred
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
