American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring Level I Trauma and strong IV skills.
Responsibilities- Work in a 24-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) within an acute care hospital
- Patient population includes post-cardiac surgery, ECMO, IABP, CRRT, lung transplant, thoracic, and transplant patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1 to 1:2, with a high number of 1:1 assignments
- Advanced equipment in use includes Impella, IABP, ECMO, CRRT, and Swans
- Cerner is the EMR used for documentation
- 12-hour night shifts from 7PM to 7AM with a requirement to work 3 weekend shifts per 4 weeks
- Holiday coverage is part of the unit rotation
- Floating required to other ICUs and Telemetry units, with a ratio of up to 4:1 on Tele units and possible float to secondary campus
- Floor-specific orientation provided over 2 days
- Provide high-acuity care including bedside procedures such as bronchoscopy, Swan-Ganz monitoring, and managing advanced cardiac devices
- Team includes a charge nurse with no patient assignment and 2 PCTs per shift during high census
- Intensivist coverage is in-house during the day and on-call at night
- Pharmacy and respiratory therapy support are available 24/7
- Navy scrubs are required as the standard dress code
- Strict appearance policy: natural hair color only, no facial piercings, men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Day 1 includes SIMs Lab testing for sterile technique; failure results in disqualification for 6 months at regional facilities
- Must have own vehicle for travel between campuses if required to float
- First-time travelers will be considered if all other requirements are met
- Active AZ or Compact RN license required at the time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU nursing experience with Level I Trauma exposure required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; CCRN preferred
- Strong IV skills required due to absence of an IV Team
- Experience with advanced cardiac and transplant patient care strongly preferred
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to confirmation, with two attempts allowed
- Successful completion of pass/fail SIMs Lab for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on day 1 required
- Two professional references: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor within the last three years
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility based on permanent address as verified by driver’s license
- Candidates with direct employment at any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible
