Primary Responsibilities: Demonstrates the ability to perform specific competencies as listed on the competency validation checklist. Receives and reviews request for radiologic studies Accepts patients and assesses their condition to determine proper handling and special requirements Identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements. Operates highly complex radiographic equipment within the radiology department, operating suites and at the patient's bedside, selecting technical factors to ensure high-quality radiographs using the A.L.A.R.A. (As low as reasonable achievable) standards. Explain and prepare the patient for all radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures Interview patients and review available clinical data from charts to alert nurses and or physicians to possible contradictions for procedure Relies on extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and effects of disease processes to properly and safely position the patient for maximum diagnostic yield. Maintains radiographic equipment and x-ray room in proper working condition. Reports malfunctions and necessary repairs to supervisory personnel. Maintains radiology supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting order for supplies, verifying receipt of supplies. Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
