A Medical Center seeks a locum tenens hospitalist to manage patient admissions from the Emergency Room during a swing shift from 1:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. The physician is responsible for timely admission orders, collaborating with Advanced Practice Providers, and submitting professional fee bills while ensuring efficient patient care. This role requires board certification in Internal Medicine and relevant state licensure.
Medical Center seeking a Locum Hospitalist Dates for SWING SHIFT (1P-1A) - December 25- January 4 Shift is 12 hours in duration: 1:00 p.m. 1:00 a.m. Number of encounters per shift managed solely by you should average 9. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) should average 4.5 during the period of time in which his or her shift overlaps with yours. Hence, the typical average number of encounters billed by you per shift is 13. From 1:00 p.m. through 6:00 p.m., you will be the primary point of contact for the Emergency Room (ER). Your primary responsibility is admitting patients through the ER as quickly and efficiently as possible. Once you are contacted by the ER for an admission, you are expected to place an order for admission in <30 minutes. This is a metric that is tracked. All calls from the ER route through the Physician Access Center (PAC). You will receive a secure text message via CareAware Connect Messenger that will include patient identifier(s) along with a call back number. When you call back, the PAC employee will connect you with the ER provider for sign-out. These calls are recorded. If, at any time between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., you feel overwhelmed and need assistance from your colleagues, you can request the PAC employee to send the next patient to the Day Team. There is a Day Shift APP available to assist you with admissions until 7:00 p.m He or she can be called upon to assist when you are actively working on an admission and another is called. In other words, the APP is available to work in tandem with you, not instead of you. You will be expected to see and evaluate any patient handled by the APP and document a substantial portion of one of the following elements of the note: History of Present Illness; Physical Examination; or Medical Decision Making. You will also be responsible for submitting the professional fee bill. Dont forget to include the FS modifier. At 6:00 p.m., there will be 2 additional Physician resources: 1) Nocturnist working a 10-hour shift; and 2) Late Back-Up, one of the Day Physicians available to help with admissions until 8:00 p.m. At 8:00 p.m., the Night Shift APP arrives and is primarily responsible for cross coverage (not admitting) of the entire Hospitalist Service, average census of 250 patients. If contacted by the APP regarding a cross-cover issue, you are expected to respond promptly and as appropriate. Reasonable effort should be made by your colleagues to ensure you get out at 1:00 a.m., when your shift ends. PAC is instructed to stop sending admissions to you at midnight.
