Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric Acute unit night shift position requiring an active IL RN license, BLS, and PALS certifications.

Responsibilities

• Work in the Pediatric Acute unit within an acute care hospital setting
• Unit cares for medical/surgical pediatric patients, including diagnoses such as hyperbilirubinemia, neurological conditions, diabetes, failure to thrive, cystic fibrosis, COVID, and orthopedic cases
• Shared unit with Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, expanding up to 32 beds based on census
• Nurse to patient ratio is 1:4
• Use of heated high flow and Bipap equipment within specific parameters
• Care for monitored patients, with a Pediatric monitor tech providing support
• Charting performed in Epic EMR
• 12-hour night shifts (1900-0730), required to work every other weekend
• Holiday coverage is expected unless approved during the interview
• Floating may be required within children's hospital to other pediatric units or mom/baby, but not to ICUs unless experienced and not to chemo patients
• Charge RN, pediatric crisis RN, and administrative supervisor available 24/7
• Patient care technicians (PCTs) on unit with 1:8-10 ratio
• Hospitalist in-house until midnight with 24/7 resident coverage
• No mandatory on-call or standby requirements
• Scrub tops should be pediatric appropriate, any color or pattern, with solid color pants; no revealing clothing
• Two shift unit-specific orientation provided, extensions approved as necessary
• First time travelers may be considered
• Clinicians living within 50 miles are considered local

Requirements

• Active IL RN license or confirmation of application in process
• Minimum of 2 years recent pediatric acute care experience
• Current BLS and PALS certifications (AHA)
• Must pass a comprehensive drug screen
• Epic EMR experience preferred
