Registered Nurse – ED Observation UnitUnit Overview / Job Duties

The Observation Unit provides care for adult patients who require additional monitoring to determine whether hospital admission is necessary or if they can be safely treated and discharged home. This is a fast-paced, high-turnover unit managing both emergency observation and admitted boarding patients.

• Average of 20–27 patient turnovers per day
• Average length of stay: ~27 hours
• 24/7 provider coverage
• Care for a diverse adult population
• Patient acuity ranges from short-stay observation to full admissions
• Requires strong assessment, prioritization, and time-management skills

Job Requirements

• Active RN License – New York ONLY
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience
• Telemetry experience required

Certifications

• BLS – American Heart Association (Required)
• NIHSS – Preferred
