The Sonographer I - PRN position involves performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations to support physicians in clinical decision-making. The role requires patient preparation, operation of ultrasound equipment, image evaluation, and adherence to safety protocols, including contrast media administration and venipuncture. Candidates must have appropriate sonography certification, relevant education, and ideally some experience in diagnostic imaging within a healthcare environment.

Novant Health is seeking a Sonographer I who will play an essential role in delivering high-quality diagnostic imaging. This position supports physicians by preparing patients, operating ultrasound equipment, and producing accurate diagnostic images that guide clinical decisions.
What You'll DoPrepare patients for ultrasound procedures and ensure comfort, safety, and clear communication throughout the exam.
Perform high-quality diagnostic ultrasound scans using established protocols while optimizing technical factors for accuracy and patient safety.
Demonstrate strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
Modify care appropriately based on patient age, condition, and abilities.
Receive, interpret, document, and verify electronic, written, and verbal orders.
Evaluate images for quality, proper labeling, and accurate patient identification.
Ensure timely transfer of images and relevant clinical information to interpreting providers.
Identify, prepare, and administer contrast media or medications as prescribed; perform venipuncture when required.
Utilize EMR, RIS, and PACS systems efficiently and accurately.
Graduate of an ARRT-approved Radiography or Sonography Program; or a CAAHEP-accredited Sonography Program - Required
Associate Degree - Preferred
1 year of sonography experience - Preferred
Must meet Life Support Training requirements per policy NH-HR-3096.
Varies by location; all routes require certification and registration in Sonography (ARRT RT(S) or ARDMS):
Medical Center: RT(S) or ARDMS certification required within 6 months of hire
IDTF / Hospital Outpatient: RT(S) or ARDMS - Required
Medical Group Office: RT(S) or ARDMS - Required
