Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a busy Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with oncology surgical patients, requiring an OH or compact RN license and at least 2 years' experience.
Responsibilities
- Work on a mixed acuity PCU/Med Surg unit specializing in oncology surgical care
- Adult and geriatric patient population with diagnoses including breast, thyroid, melanoma, hepatobiliary, colorectal, and reconstructive surgeries
- Special procedures include chemotherapy, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, oncologic emergencies, insulin and heparin drips
- Staffing goal is 1:4, with a maximum ratio of 1:5
- Self-scheduling requests are accepted but final schedules are balanced by staff
- Both day (7:00-19:30) and night (19:00-7:30) 12-hour shifts are available
- Variable weekend coverage based on unit needs
- EPIC EMR is used and experience is required
- Orientation includes one week of Mon-Fri dayshift and a second week with a preceptor on unit
- Focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall reduction
- Self-schedule requests are considered as part of the scheduling process
- Heavy focus on teamwork with all permanent staff PCU-trained
- First week orientation is structured to support traveler success
Requirements
- Active OH or compact RN license
- Minimum of 2 years' recent PCU experience
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- ONS Chemo certification preferred but not required
- Experience caring for oncology surgical, hepatobiliary, and colorectal patients preferred
