The Senior Hardware Development Engineer at AWS designs and develops next-generation server components including motherboards and accelerators, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure high performance, quality, and cost-efficiency. Responsibilities include hardware architecture, validation, large-scale product launches, and ongoing management of server hardware reliability in data centers. The role demands deep technical expertise, leadership, and innovation to support AWS's cloud infrastructure growth and customer experience improvement.
What you will do:
As a member of the AWS Board Core Design & Services team you will own next-generation server components. You will have demonstrated results in the architecture and development of components used in servers, in areas such as motherboards, graphics, accelerators, and programmable hardware. You will interact with an interdisciplinary team of engineers to design, develop, validate, and launch at large scale. You’ll provide leadership in the application of new technologies to servers in a continuous effort to deliver and improve a world-class customer experience. This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position. You will work with thought leaders in multiple technology areas. You have high standards for yourself and everyone you work with. A day in the life
Hardware engineers within AWS Board Core Design & Services team could be working in a variety of areas, few examples would be: hardware design and development; building the systems that validate hardware quality in manufacturing; monitoring and improving hardware reliability in data centers and platform. We cover everything from low level hardware to embedded software and systems that operate and monitor it. There is no blueprint for how to do what we do, which encourages our engineers to identify and develop simple solutions to complex problems. We encourage durable solutions that look around corners while taking into consideration our customer needs from a cost, performance, and reliability perspective.

- 5+ years of hardware engineering experience
- Experience collaborating with the ECAD/physical board designer and able to review PCB designs with Allegro, CAM350, or equivalent
- Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
- -7+ years of experience with I2C, SPI, UART interfaces.
- -Experience interfacing with thermal, mechanical, firmware and software teams during product development.
- Experience in motherboard design, PCB design including schematic capture, stackup and circuit board layout
- Experience in server technologies such as, thermal, mechanical, power, and signal integrity
- Experience developing and executing test procedures for mechanical or electrical systems/components based on design intent and approved equipment submissions
- Experience identifying and resolving complex issues
- Experience in component selection and understanding of component reliability
- Experience in designing and developing large-scale services
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
- 10+ years of experience in server design for cloud or enterprise applications
- Experience in designing for reuse across multiple products
- Strong organizational and planning skill
- Desire to work in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written (white papers) and oral communication skills
- Experience with the management of technical programs a plus.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $143,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $257,300/year in our highest geographic market.
