Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a night shift Med/Surg Tele position in an acute care setting with an IL RN license and strong surgical skills required.
Responsibilities
- Work in a Med/Surg Telemetry unit within an acute care hospital
- 48-bed inpatient surgical unit located on the 3rd floor, spanning two buildings
- Night shifts, 12 hours, with every other weekend required
- Care for a broad patient population including neuro, orthopedic, general surgical, and chronic care patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-6 on nights, with LPN and virtual nurse support
- Primary care nursing model frequently used
- Utilizes Allscripts Sunrise EMR; experience preferred
- Tele monitor techs monitor Draeger systems; RNs must interpret their own strips
- CPAP, Airvo, and occasional Bipap in use on the unit
- Floating required to like units only, with no patient load when floated to higher acuity units
- Typical patient diagnoses include laminectomies, joint replacements, ostomies, sepsis, chronic pain, and urgent OR cases
- Unit is fast-paced and handles frequent surgical admissions and discharges
- Holiday coverage is included in the core staff rotation
- Scrub color requirement is black
- Unit orientation consists of one 12-hour shift and 12-14 hours of onboarding on the first day
- Accepts local candidates
- First time travelers are welcome
Requirements
- Current IL RN license required
- Minimum two years of Med/Surg experience
- At least one year of direct surgical experience, including total joint cases
- Current AHA BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- Ability to manage PCA pumps, reversal drugs such as Narcan, sepsis protocols, TPN/Lipids, and narcotic medication use
- Experience titrating Heparin and other protocol-driven drips
- Comfortable with Med/Surg Tele charge and team support structure
