The HVAC Controls Systems Technician installs, commissions, and troubleshoots HVAC control systems using specialized software and test equipment. The role involves performing system-level diagnostics, documenting changes, and maintaining communication with contractors and customers while adhering to safety standards. Candidates should have technical aptitude in mechanical and electrical HVAC systems, plus relevant commissioning experience.
REPORTS TO: Branch Installation Manager or Systems Team Leader
RESPONSIBILITY LEVEL:
Performs assigned system commissioning using Johnson Controls configuration and
commissioning tools. Troubleshoots and resolves basic HVAC mechanical, electrical, and
controls problems. Responds to basic warranty calls.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
1. Loads system-level controller software.
2. Performs basic commissioning and system diagnostics from system-level controllers to
end devices (e.g., sensors, actuators, etc.) and completes all required commissioning
documentation.
3. Keeps management and JCI contractor or customer informed of job progress and
issues.
4. Calibrates systems requiring basic electronic test equipment.
5. Completes administrative tasks including but not limited to time sheets, expense
reports, and on-site documentation.
6. Documents changes and provides information for as-built documentation.
7. Communicates with the JCI contractor or customer upon arrival and before leaving the
work site.
8. Follows all safety standards and attends required safety training. High degree of regard
to employee and subcontractor safety.
REQUIREMENTS:
Demonstrated technical aptitude.
Able to use hand and power tools (e.g., drills, saws,
etc.).
Basic computer skills required.
Attention to detail.
Good communication and listening
skills.
Depending on location, the mounting and termination of low voltage devices may have
special licensing requirements.
2 years of experience commissioning electronic and/or
mechanical systems.
Demonstrated knowledge of HVAC mechanical systems.
Proficient with
test equipment and software tools related to commissioning of controls systems.
Basic understanding of electrical circuitry as they pertain to HVAC controls and their operation.
HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $24.00-$31.73 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
