American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Float Pool position in a Level II Trauma Center, requiring an AL or compact license and 18 months of med/surg experience.
Responsibilities- Work in a large hospital environment with assignments in Med/Surg, Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, Oncology, Orthopedics, Clinical Decision, and Urology units
- Patient populations include general surgery, vascular, CVA, TBI, seizures, oncology, orthopedics, urology, and complex medical cases
- Patient ratios range from 1:5 to 1:6 depending on the unit and assignment
- Night and day 12-hour shifts available, utilizing a 4-week schedule cycle
- Every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month required
- Tele monitoring supported by dedicated techs; RNs must interpret telemetry strips every 4 hours
- Training includes 24 hours classroom and 24 hours unit orientation for new or returning travelers (over 1 year)
- EMR is Cerner (preferred), and primary equipment includes Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medications, and Spacelabs monitors
- Floating may be required to like units or between med/surg and ICU/ER tasks
- No on-call responsibilities
- Main responsibilities include assessment, medication administration, wound care, chest tubes, complex line management, and patient education across varied specialty units
- Support on the unit includes CNAs, charge nurses, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalists
- RNs are required to confirm and interpret telemetry strips every 4 hours
- First-time travelers are eligible if meeting experience requirement
- Six-month waiting period applies for former staff before eligibility as a traveler
- Approval for up to 7 days of time off, except during specified holiday blackout dates
- Must work at least one major and one minor holiday per policy
- No local candidates allowed within a 60-mile radius
- Dress code allows any color scrubs
- Parking is available in the deck on 2nd through 4th levels
- Active AL or compact state RN license is required
- Minimum 18 months of recent med/surg RN experience required
- At least one year of trauma/surgical experience needed for assignment to Trauma Surgical
- BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- Chemo administration certification highly preferred for oncology assignments
- Experience in wound care, trach care, chest tubes, NGT, IV starts, central lines, and telemetry interpretation required
- Experience with Cerner EMR preferred
