Senior physician leadership role as Department Chair of Anesthesiology responsible for clinical and administrative oversight across a 397-bed teaching hospital and a new ambulatory surgery center. The position is for a Department Chair of Anesthesiology at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and its new Ambulatory Surgery Center, providing both clinical and administrative leadership. The role involves overseeing a team of physicians, CRNAs, and residents, promoting quality assurance, driving operational efficiency, and leading educational programs. The ideal candidate will have an MD/DO with board certification, leadership experience, and a commitment to advancing anesthesiology practice in a large integrated healthcare system.
Advocate Health is seeking an experienced, visionary Anesthesiologist to serve as Department Chair of Anesthesiology at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and our brand-new Ambulatory Surgery Center near Lincoln Park.This is a rare opportunity to shape the next generation of anesthesiology care at a state-of-the-art academic medical center and cutting-edge outpatient facility in one of Chicago’s most vibrant neighborhoods.
As Department Chair, you’ll provide both clinical and administrative leadership, guiding a talented team of 30 attending physicians,10CRNAs, and32residents while advancing quality, innovation, and collaboration across Advocate Health.

Notable Duties and Areas of Accountabilities
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Department of Anesthesiology, ensuring excellence in patient care, safety, and service quality.
- Maintain a robust quality assurance and peer review program focused on continuous improvement and best practices.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and collaboration across the department and hospital.
- Oversee clinical performance, credentialing, and professional development of all anesthesia providers.
- Partner with hospital and Advocate Health leadership to drive operational efficiency, achieve key performance goals, and support organizational initiatives.
- Lead departmental education efforts, including oversight of residency and continuing medical education programs.
- Support recruitment, retention, and workforce development to meet current and future service needs.
- Collaborate with surgical, nursing, and administrative leaders on strategic planning, capital budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Ensure departmental compliance with hospital policies, medical staff bylaws, and regulatory standards.
- Represent the department on key hospital committees and serve as an advocate for the anesthesiology team within the broader medical community.

- MD/DO with active Illinois license and Board Certification in Anesthesiology
- Proven leadership and administrative experience
- Strong communication, collaboration, and team development skills
- Academic or teaching experience required

The city center area covers a little more than 4 square miles, lying roughly between Division Street on the north, Lake Michigan on the east, 26th Street on the south and Halsted on the west. The three branches of the Chicago River meet in this area, and the area is considered the city's commercial hub. The area known as the Loop is a section within downtown, surrounded by elevated tracks of the rapid transit network. Many of downtown's commercial, cultural, and financial institutions are located in the Loop. Today, the Loop is also used to identify the larger downtown area.
