Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring surgical and telemetry skills, night shifts, and a current VA or compact RN license.
Responsibilities
- Position is on a 24-bed surgical unit in a hospital setting with a mix of med/tele patients as beds become available
- Patient population includes surgical telemetry cases as well as urology, renal, amputations, podiatry, and general surgery
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:5-6
- Non-critical drips are used and there is no high flow oxygen
- Unit is supported by telemetry technicians and patient care techs
- 12-hour night shifts from 7pm to 7am, with required work every other weekend and major holidays
- Bedside shift report is required
- Scrub colors are navy blue, white, or a combination of both
- All candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius from the facility
- Responsibilities include managing surgical and telemetry patients, performing bedside shift reports, and following specific surgical orders such as strict I&O
- Care team includes strong support with tele techs and patient care techs
- Holiday coverage is required as assigned
- Navy blue and/or white scrubs are mandatory
- Interview is conducted by invitation only
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
Requirements
- Active VA or compact state RN license required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience and prior surgical and telemetry experience required
- Proficiency with lab draws required
- Certifications required: BLS and NIHSS
- Must pass an EKG exam at orientation; study guide provided and 2 attempts allowed
