We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Psychiatry Nurse Practitioner to join our multidisciplinary mental health team at the Branch Health Clinic-Oceana. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of psychiatric care, demonstrate exceptional patient assessment skills, and have experience managing a broad spectrum of mental health conditions across diverse populations. As a Psychiatry Nurse Practitioner, you will deliver high-quality, patient-centered care through clinical evaluation, medication management, and collaborative treatment planning. Your expertise will contribute to improving mental health outcomes within our community and support our mission to provide accessible, compassionate psychiatric services.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, between the hours of 0730 and 1600 hours.

• Shifts will normally be scheduled for an eight and half (8.5) hour period, to include an uncompensated thirty (30) minute lunch break. In no instance will you be required to provide services in excess of eighty (80) hours per two-week period.

Qualifications:

• Education: at minimum a Master's degree in Nursing. Graduate from an academic program, within the nursing specialty field of study that is accredited by a regional or national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
• License: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse Practitioner
• Certifications:BLS certification, and Possess and maintain current certification as an Adult or Family Psychiatric-Mental Health Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
• Experience: Possess a minimum of one (1) year of full-time experience as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner within the preceding three (3) years.
• Have successfully completed thirty (30) hours of education in pharmacology for advance nursing practice.
• Have the ability and training to prescribe to and manage patients on psychiatric medications.

Duties

Shall provide services within the scope of their competencies, the applicable duties provided in the basic contract, and the following:

• A. Analyze the results of the health care plan, modify the health care plan as needed, and implement and participate in follow-up.
• B. Participate in the review and evaluate the care provided to patients, identify opportunities to improve the care delivered, and recommend corrective action when problems exist. Should a meeting occur outside of the HCW s regular working hours, the HCW shall be required to read and initial the minutes of the meeting.
• C. Adhere to departmental and hospital safety guidelines.
• D. Obtain and accurately documents a relevant health history, with an emphasis on mental history.
• E. Perform comprehensive mental health assessments and psychiatric evaluations.
• F. Analyze the relationship between normal physiology and specific system alterations associated with mental health problems, psychiatric disorders, and treatment.
• G. Identify and analyzes factors that affect mental health such as genetics, family environment trauma, psychodynamics, culture & ethnicity, etc.
• H. Conduct a comprehensive multigenerational family assessment.
• I. Assess the impact of acute and/or chronic physical illness, psychiatric disorders, and stressors on the family system.
• J. Performs and accurately documents appropriate systems and symptom-focused physical examinations, with emphasis on the mental status exam and neurological exam.
• K. Develop a treatment plan for mental health problems and psychiatric disorders based on biopsychosocial theories, evidence-based standards of care, and practice guidelines.
• L. Conduct individual, group, and/or family psychotherapy.
• M. Treat acute psychiatric disorders and mental health problems.
• N. Obtain patient health and developmental history and perform/record a health appraisal including physical assessment and evaluation.
• O. Differentiate between normal findings and those that require consultation and/or referral.
• P. Diagnose and treat patients with common acute conditions, illnesses or minor trauma within legally accepted protocols, Nurse Practice Acts, in collaboration with a physician
• Q. Order diagnostic tests as applicable.
• R. Formulate a health care plan for patients presenting for treatment to the emphasizing self-care responsibility through the participation of the patient, family, physician and other health care professionals.
• S. Collaborate with the physician in the health care of patients with chronic illnesses.
• T. Request consultation or referrals with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated.
• U. Prescribe and dispense medications as delineated by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
• V. Promote preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling.
• W. Implement and participate in patient follow-up and modify the health care plan as needed.
• X. Maintain patient records in accordance with Military Treatment Facility (MTF) requirements.
• Y. Collect and record all examination data in proper format for review, approval and/or recommendation by physician.
