The Perfusionist is responsible for operating cardiopulmonary bypass equipment and related devices during cardiac surgeries, including selecting supplies, administering medications, and monitoring patient support systems. They work under the supervision of the chief perfusionist and attending physicians, ensuring proper use of technology and mentoring peers. The role may also involve transporting patients supported by extracorporeal devices between facilities.

Northwest HealthCare, six miles west of Christian, offers 24- hour emergency care, the Sleep Disorders Center and a variety of outpatient diagnostic and imaging services.
Perfusion Department conducts cardiopulmonary bypass during cardiac surgery. This includes responsibility and accountability for selection of CPB equipment and techniques, administration of medications, intravenous solutions and the assessment and implementation of other cardiopulmonary support measures/modalities as required.
