American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Telemetry Float Pool position in an acute care Level 1 trauma setting, requiring AZ or Compact RN licensure and the ability to titrate cardiac drips.
Responsibilities- Work across hospital Telemetry, Neuro Telemetry, and Medical-Surgical units as part of the Telemetry Float Pool
- Patient populations include post-cath lab, post-vascular procedures, neuro post-surgical, general surgical, ortho, and oncology patients aged 15 and up
- Patient ratios are typically 1:3-4 on telemetry and neuro units, and 1:4 on MedSurg units
- Requires interpretation of EKGs and management of various cardiac drips as appropriate to each unit
- Uses Cerner EMR system
- 12-hour night shifts (7pm-7am) with 4 weekend shifts per schedule and required coverage for 2 of 3 major holidays
- Floating is required between all Tele, MedSurg, Neuro Tele, and holding areas, and may occasionally include floating to a nearby campus
- Primary responsibilities include providing direct telemetry and med-surg nursing care to a variety of adult patient populations
- Must be flexible with floating assignments, including floating mid-shift and to different campuses as occasionally needed
- Centralized telemetry monitoring is used in all relevant units
- Charge nurses do not have patient assignments and clinical supervisors or unit supervisors are available in each unit
- No ventilator management or IV team; support includes PCTs, RT, and pharmacy 24/7
- Navy scrubs are required as the unit dress code
- Pass/Fail on Sim Lab and sterile technique test on orientation day is mandatory for assignment continuation
- Not a first-time traveler-friendly assignment; prior travel or float experience is strongly recommended
- Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for travel pay
- Active AZ or Compact (NLC) RN license required at time of application
- Minimum 2 years of recent acute care RN experience
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Proven ability to titrate cardiac drips and interpret EKGs
- Must pass dysrhythmia exam prior to contract signing (maximum two attempts allowed)
- Must successfully complete a simulation lab on the first day of orientation
- Experience with Cerner EMR preferred
- Must provide two professional references, including one supervisor from the past 12 months and another peer or supervisor from the past 3 years
- Copy of driver's license is required for consideration
- Candidates may not have been employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facilities in the past 12 months
