American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 15-week Med/Surg Ortho night shift assignment in an acute care setting, requiring a NE or compact RN license and BLS certification.
Responsibilities- Work in a 22-bed Med/Surg Orthopedics unit within an acute care hospital
- Care for patients undergoing total knee, hip, ankle, and shoulder replacements, as well as spinal procedures
- Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5-6 with an average daily census of 6
- Shift schedule consists of 12-hour night shifts with self-scheduling and cyclic rotation
- Required to work every other weekend and rotate holidays with permanent staff
- Floating required to MedSurg, rehab, or PCU units with MedSurg acuity
- Uses Epic electronic medical record (EMR); prior Epic experience preferred but not required
- Tele monitoring present; tele techs read and interpret strips
- Primary responsibilities include caring for post-operative orthopedic patients, administering pain meds, antibiotics, and blood products
- Charge nurse is present on each shift and may take assignments
- Support staff includes nurse aides or patient care techs at a 1:13 ratio
- No titration of drips required
- Artificial nails are prohibited; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
- A single day of unit-specific orientation is provided
- Holiday coverage is assigned in rotation with permanent staff
- RTO (requested time off) must be submitted up front and limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract
- Candidates must demonstrate teamwork, adaptability, ownership, and a willingness to learn
- Duo travelers wanting the same schedule or to share a car are not permitted
- Blocked scheduling only approved for weekends
- First-time travelers are eligible to apply
- Active NE or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg RN experience
- Driver's license required to validate residence outside the 50-mile radius
- Candidates must not be full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
- References required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years
- Must pass a unit-specific open-book skills exam during orientation with a score of 90% or above
