Facility Location
Two hog farmers, in 1957, started to subdivide their land and begin selling their lots for residential housing and so a new development by the name of Harker Heights came to be, complete with its own shops and restaurants. The name was a mix of the original landowners name Harley Kern. The city is located close to Ford Hood; a US army facility that was created in the 1950s and so most of the residents of Harker Heights are engaged in some type of economic activity related to that army post.
