American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position with adult to geriatric patients and a requirement for an active GA or compact RN license.
Responsibilities- Work in a hospital-based Medical Surgical unit
- Patient population includes adults and geriatric patients
- Typical diagnoses include appendicitis, cholecystitis, small bowel obstruction, pneumonia, COPD exacerbation, sepsis, hypertension, hypo/hyperglycemia, as well as post-surgical cases such as prostatectomy, appendectomy, cholecystectomy, ostomy creation/reversal, exploratory laparotomy, and bowel resections
- Nurse to patient ratio is 1:6 with a 34-bed unit and average daily census of 27
- Uses Epic EMR, Pyxis, and SBAR communication framework
- Shifts are day (3x12 hours), 7:00-19:00, with every other weekend required
- Floating required within the facility
- No call required
- Responsibilities include managing a range of medical and surgical conditions with required competency using core equipment
- Applicants who are first-time travelers are accepted
- Scrub color for this unit is navy blue
- No blocked scheduling allowed
- If contract includes one major holiday, must work it; if two, must work both; if three, must work two of them
- Maximum of 7 days of requested time off allowed, but none can be taken during the first week
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate as travelers
- Full compliance is required to start on time; delays in compliance may delay assignment start due to bi-weekly orientation
- Travel pairs cannot be assigned to the same shift on the same unit
- Return travelers who could not return to a facility must complete one successful assignment elsewhere before reapplying
- Active GA or compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg nursing experience
- Current BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIH) certifications required
- Must be able to use equipment such as NGT, chest tubes, feeding tubes, and wound vacs
- Familiarity with Epic EMR preferred
- Must submit two supervisory references for consideration (manager level or higher, charge not accepted)
- Must not have worked in any Piedmont facility as perm or per diem within the past year to be eligible to return as a traveler
