American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring a current CA RN license and strong L&D expertise.
Responsibilities- Work in a hospital Labor & Delivery unit with 12 L&D beds and 6 triage beds
- Cares for high-risk and multiple birth pregnancies, including insulin drips and magnesium sulfate drips
- RN-to-patient ratio is 2:1 in accordance with ACOG guidelines
- Handles C-sections, as well as circulating and recovery responsibilities
- Unit uses Cerner EMR; prior Cerner experience preferred but not required
- Night shifts, 12 hours in length, with every other weekend required
- No floating required; this is a closed unit
- No nurse aides, but OB techs are available for assistance
- Hospital-provided scrubs are required
- Responsibilities include comprehensive patient assessment, labor management, medication administration, fetal monitoring, and detailed charting
- Unit supports a high volume of deliveries, with over 300 per month
- NICU available for high-risk deliveries, nearly level IV capability
- OB techs provide support with C-sections and baby care as needed
- No elective abortions performed on the unit
- Charting is comprehensive; all information must be documented without exception
- Unit is fast-paced and requires adaptability and strong teamwork
- Two orientation shifts provided, with meeting time with educator and documentation review
- Charge nurse is present and does not take a patient assignment
- Breaks provided in accordance with California law
- Return candidates who have worked directly for CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity in the past year are not eligible
- Active and current CA RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum of 3 years L&D experience required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (must be AHA)
- Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required
- AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification required
- Must be comfortable managing a 2-patient assignment
- C-section experience is required
- Must submit two professional references: one supervisor reference from the past 12 months, and one peer or supervisor reference from the past 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
