American Traveler is seeking a Nurse Shift Manager RN for a 21-bed Emergency Department with strong charge experience, CA RN license, and nights/weekend availability.
Responsibilities- Position is in the Emergency Department within an acute care hospital setting
- 21-bed ER including a fast track area staffed with midlevels and LVNs
- Typical ER patients, with MedSurg Tele holds possible and responsibility for those patients
- Nurse Shift Manager will serve as both Charge and direct patient care provider as needed
- Patient ratios are 1:4, or 1:2 for ICU-level patients
- Utilizes Cerner EMR and Phillips telemetry equipment
- 12-hour night shifts with 4 weekend shifts required every 4 weeks
- Self-scheduling is offered, finalized by leadership; block scheduling is not allowed
- Floating may occur between two nearby ERs, with notice given if floated pre-shift
- On-call may require reporting within 30 minutes
- Nurse Shift Manager will also take patient assignments, provide direct care, triage ambulance patients, start IVs, administer medications, and manage department workflow
- Position supports a primary stroke center and occasionally handles 5150 psych holds (rarely longer than 12 hours)
- Candidates must be highly team-oriented with the ability to adapt to daily high patient volume fluctuations
- Orientation includes two shifts at the main campus and one shift at the other facility
- One major and one minor holiday coverage required per contract
- Scrub color is navy blue, including jackets; undershirts may be navy, white, or black
- Participation in the unit's MET (Mobile Eval Team) is part of the role
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates must make this their primary job and be available per contract requirements
- Active CA RN license required at time of consideration; compact or pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum of 3 years of RN experience required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS
- Strong charge nurse or management experience required for Nurse Shift Manager role
- Experience with Cerner EMR preferred
- Driver’s license required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from the past year, and one peer or supervisor from the past three years, both with employment dates and rehire eligibility
- Must not have been directly employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity in the past year
