American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift contract requiring strong ventilator skills and an active MO or compact RN license.
Responsibilities- Work in a tertiary care, Level 1 trauma, and teaching hospital setting
- Progressive Care Unit patient population including pulmonary stepdown, intermediate care, and ventilated trach patients
- Patient ratios are typically 1:4, with occasional flex up to 1:6
- Uses advanced equipment including ventilators, endobronchial valves, Emerson/Pleur-evac chest tubes, external CPAP/BIPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and more
- Expect to care for patients with cardiac conditions, renal failure, and neurological diagnoses (CVA, traumatic brain injury)
- Night shifts are 3x12 hours from 18:45 to 07:15
- Eight weekend shifts are required per 6-week schedule, with weekends including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
- No on-call required
- Regular floating may be required between departments, units, and facilities
- Epic is used for charting and recent Epic experience is preferred
- Responsibilities include management of high acuity pulmonary and cardiac patients, ventilator management, and care of patients with airvo, bipap, pulmonary valve placement, and tracheostomies
- Strict adherence to isolation precautions and infection control protocols is required
- RTO requests limited to a maximum of 7 days
- Navy scrubs are required while on duty
- Free parking provided for staff
- Facility is a five-time Magnet-awarded hospital
- No travel partners allowed on this assignment
- Orientation modules must be completed prior to start and annually thereafter
- First-time travelers are accepted for this contract
- Active MO or compact RN license in hand prior to consideration
- Minimum 2 years of recent specialty experience in PCU or MS/Telemetry settings, with at least one full year of in-specialty work within the past 12 months and no employment gap greater than 90 days
- Strong ventilator experience required
- Certifications required: BLS and NIHSS
- Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias, manage cardiac drips (excluding titration), and respond to emergencies
- Experience with feeding tube care, hemodialysis management, IV therapy, blood product administration, and central/PICC line management
- Must provide two professional references, one from a supervisor or above and one from a charge RN, both from the past year
- Must clear drug screening requirements
- Must live at least 75 miles from the facility; local candidates not accepted
- No pending license at time of consideration
