The Inpatient Forensic Psychiatrist provides specialized psychiatric care to residents in a secure forensic setting, including diagnosis, treatment planning, medication management, and psychotherapy. This role requires collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, participation in legal proceedings, and supervision of clinical staff, while ensuring compliance with medical and legal standards. Candidates must have board certification in psychiatry and at least two years of inpatient and forensic psychiatry experience.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Inpatient Forensic Psychiatrist for a full-time locum tenens assignment in Florida. This role provides direct psychiatric care to residents in a secure forensic setting and requires a minimum of 2 years of inpatient and forensic psychiatry experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive psychiatric services, including admission evaluations, physical and psychiatric examinations, diagnosis, treatment planning, medication management, psychotherapy, and forensic determinations.
- Manage minor and major medical conditions, including use of restraints or seclusion when clinically indicated.
- Conduct regular rounds, document patient progress, and adjust treatment as necessary.
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team and make appropriate referrals to ancillary departments.
- Request second opinions when needed and ensure all documentation meets DCF and hospital standards.
- Participate in legal proceedings, disaster drills, and emergency response as required.
- Supervise Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants per protocol.
- Maintain licensure through continuing medical education and participate in medical committee work.
- Communicate with families and interested parties when appropriate.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry.
- Minimum 2 years of inpatient and forensic psychiatry experience.
- Strong diagnostic skills utilizing ICD/DSM criteria and adherence to national standards of psychiatric care.
