The Vascular Surgery Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant provides advanced clinical care for patients with vascular diseases, handling evaluation, diagnosis, and perioperative management under the supervision of a Vascular Surgeon. This role includes patient education, coordination of multidisciplinary care, procedural duties within scope, and maintaining compliant documentation. Work is conducted in both inpatient and outpatient settings with involvement in urgent vascular care and quality improvement initiatives.
The Vascular Surgery NP/PA provides advanced clinical care for patients with vascular disease, including arterial, venous, and endovascular conditions. This role involves evaluation, diagnosis, perioperative and postoperative management, patient education, and coordination of care under the supervision of a Vascular Surgeon. The NP/PA works in both outpatient and inpatient settings, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care.
Key ResponsibilitiesEvaluate and manage patients with vascular conditions, including peripheral artery disease, aneurysms, carotid disease, and venous disorders
Assist in preoperative assessment, postoperative care, and longitudinal management of surgical and endovascular patients
Perform procedures within scope of practice, including wound care, vascular access management, and suture/staple removal
Order, review, and interpret laboratory studies, imaging, and diagnostic tests
Provide patient and family education regarding disease processes, treatment options, and post-procedure care
Collaborate with Vascular Surgeons, nursing staff, interventional radiology, and other multidisciplinary team members
Participate in inpatient rounds, consults, and outpatient clinics
Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic health record
Assist in quality improvement initiatives and adherence to clinical protocols and regulatory requirements
Provide on-call coverage and assist in urgent or emergent vascular care as required
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program (acute care or primary care) or Physician Assistant program
Current national certification as an NP (e.g., ANCC, AANP) or PA (NCCPA)
Current state licensure as NP or PA
Prior experience in vascular surgery, acute care, or surgical specialty preferred
DEA registration or eligibility (if applicable)
Strong clinical judgment and procedural skills relevant to vascular patients
Ability to manage complex, high-acuity patients
Excellent communication and patient education skills
Team-oriented and collaborative approach to patient care
Commitment to evidence-based, high-quality clinical practice
Combination of outpatient vascular clinics, inpatient care, and operating room support
May include call coverage, evenings, weekends, and emergent patient care depending on practice model
