Job Description:
The RN in the Labor/Delivery unit is responsible for providing compassionate and effective care to patients across different age groups—infant, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. The role involves accurately charging for patients and unit supplies, administering narcotics and medications, managing IV fluids, and ensuring the correct usage of patient care equipment. Effective communication with patients, families, and the healthcare team is essential.
Responsibilities:
- Accurately charges for patients and unit supplies.
- Administers and controls narcotics and medications.
- Administers IV fluids according to the PCS Policy and Procedure.
- Communicates effectively with all members of the patient care team including patients, family and physicians.
- Demonstrates correct and safe techniques in the use of patient care equipment.
- Handles emergency situations promptly and professionally.
- Develops and implements an individual plan of care for each patient.
- Documents patient assessments, interventions, and responses.
- Evaluates outcomes for patient care and adjusts as needed.
- Maintains competency and meets all regulatory requirements.
- Provides and documents patient and family education.
- Provides leadership by directing tasks to other healthcare team members.
