Registered Nurse - PCU

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour night shifts for 36 hours per week
• 13-26 week assignment duration accepted
• Patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:4 for surgical step down, 1:5-6 for lower acuity
• Weekend requirement: 4 per 4 weeks (flexible scheduling)
• Follow unit rotation for floating - not first to float
• Minimum 2 years of cardiac floor experience required
• Travel experience required unless traveler has more than 24 months of cardiac experience
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• 24 hours of unit orientation provided
• Navy scrubs required
• Must be comfortable with cardiac telemetry, PCU/stepdown care, sheath removal, dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Experience needed with cardiac drips (both managing without titration and titrating), chest tubes, CPAP/BIPAP, and post-cardiac procedures
• Work with specialized equipment including arterial lines, Doppler, bladder scanner, EKG, femoral sheaths, and chest tubes
• Use EPIC documentation system and Pyxis medication management
• May be assigned to Storm Team/Hurricane Team during catastrophic events
• Fatigue policy limits work to maximum 5 days in a row and 60 hours per week
• Complete 8-10 hours of non-billable modules pre-start and annually
• Interview required for all candidates

Facility:

This major regional medical center operates a comprehensive cardiac care program with a specialized Progressive Care Unit focused on post-cardiac surgery patients. The facility provides advanced cardiac services including CABG, valve replacements, TAVR procedures, and various vascular surgeries. The unit maintains a 44-bed capacity with a daily census of 41 patients and offers extensive interdisciplinary support including physical therapy, respiratory services, rapid response teams, and specialized cardiac care services.
