Purchasing Agent – Dayton, OH

Full-Time | On-Site | Manufacturing / Industrial Environment

The Schaefer Group, Inc. is seeking an experienced Purchasing Agent to join our Dayton, Ohio team. This is a full-time, on-site role supporting procurement operations for custom industrial furnace systems and manufacturing projects.

We are looking for a detail-oriented purchasing professional who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and can manage vendors, inventory, and purchasing processes efficiently.


Key Responsibilities

  • Issue and process purchase orders for materials, inventory, shop supplies, and equipment
  • Monitor open purchase orders and ensure timely delivery
  • Follow up with vendors regarding pricing, lead times, and order status
  • Coordinate with Receiving to resolve discrepancies or shipment issues
  • Negotiate pricing and delivery terms with suppliers
  • Track and analyze purchasing costs
  • Maintain vendor records and documentation within ERP system
  • Support inventory control and supply chain efficiency
  • Provide backup support for Purchasing Buyer as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of purchasing or procurement experience
  • Experience working in manufacturing or industrial environments preferred
  • Strong knowledge of purchase order processing and vendor management
  • Experience with ERP systems (Great Plains preferred)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • High school diploma or GED required

Preferred Experience

  • Inventory management and cost analysis
  • Vendor contract negotiation
  • Familiarity with accounting and supply chain processes
