American Traveler seeks an experienced RN for a Medical-Surgical ICU assignment requiring an active NE or compact RN license and ICU experience.
Responsibilities- Position is in the Med Surg ICU of an acute care, Level 1 trauma hospital
- 34-bed ICU unit with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1-2
- Adult and adolescent patients over 15 years old with medical, surgical, neuro, cardiac, respiratory, and complex critical care cases
- Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, ARDS, sepsis, stroke, MODS, renal failure, cardiac shock, general surgery, and oncology
- Required to titrate critical drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
- Drager heart monitoring and centralized telemetry, with nurses required to interpret their own strips
- Care of patients on ventilators, CPAP/BiPap, high flow oxygen, and advanced monitoring devices
- Shifts are 12-hour days with every other weekend required and possible holiday coverage on 2 of 3 major holidays
- Must float to all inpatient units except Maternity/NICU as needed
- Uses Epic for EMR documentation; prior Epic experience preferred
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Expect a fast-paced environment as a primary tertiary referral hospital for the region
- Team-based care with charge nurses present on each shift and available to attend rapid response and code situations
- 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
- Nurse aids/patient care tech support available on the unit
- Artificial nails are strictly prohibited in patient care areas
- Requested time off must be submitted up front (maximum 7 days per 13-week contract); additional requests will not be approved
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Must reside 50 miles or more from the facility as determined by driver’s license
- Collaboration with attendings, fellows, residents, and student providers is part of the team environment
- Active NE or compact RN license required at time of application; pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU nursing experience required
- Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) required
- Must provide a copy of a valid driver’s license to validate 50-mile radius compliance
- Must not be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facilities within the past year
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry monitoring strips
- Must submit two references: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor reference from the past 3 years including employment dates and rehire eligibility
- Must pass a skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
