American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in a Level 1 trauma and academic medical center that requires a NC or compact RN license and Med/Tele experience.
Responsibilities- Work in a 10-bed Med/Surg Tele unit within an academic Level 1 trauma center
- Average daily census is 8 patients per day
- Typical patient ratio is 1 RN to 5 patients
- Handles a variety of Med/Surg cases, including DM, respiratory illnesses, GI issues, neuro and trauma surgery, and pre-cardiac/CT surgery patients
- Responsible for cardiac rhythm interpretation, managing PCA pumps, surgical drains, wound care, TR Bands, and specific IV drips (Cardizem, Nitro, Amio)
- Shift times are 7pm–7am, with every other weekend required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating may occur to any adult unit or area within the nurse’s competency
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing system
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays as scheduled
- Collaborate with CNAs, a charge nurse, hospitalists, intensivists, and a 24/7 respiratory therapy team
- Telemetry monitoring is performed at the bedside, and RNs are expected to read and interpret cardiac strips
- Orientation includes NEO and two days of departmental training
- Scrub color is royal blue
- Free parking is available
- Unit culture is described as friendly and academic
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved by the manager, with extension required to accommodate requests
- First-time travelers are considered, but travel experience is preferred
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS required if assigned to Resource Team
- Minimum 1 year recent Med/Tele experience required
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, surgical drains, wound care, and IV drip management
- Ability and willingness to float to other adult units as needed
- Experience charting with Epic strongly preferred
