American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position with at least two years of recent PCU experience and required IN or Compact RN license.
Responsibilities- Work in a hospital-based Surgical Progressive Care Unit with near-ICU level acuity
- Patient population includes ENT, thoracic, general surgery, urology, and medical overflow cases
- Staffing ratios are 1:3-4
- Unit performs cardiac monitoring, manages chest tubes, fresh trachs, feeding tubes, post-op care, epidurals, non-titratable cardiac drips, IV insulin protocols, BiPAP/CPAP, total laryngectomy, and doppler flap checks
- Use of Cerner EMR is required
- Day shift (3x12 hours, 7:00-19:30), every other weekend required, with possible consecutive weekends based on need
- Floating to Med-Surg, ICU, or other units within the hospital or affiliates may be required
- No local candidates accepted for PCU positions
- Duties include advanced post-operative care for high-acuity surgical patients
- Opportunity to work in a teaching hospital with resources for ongoing learning
- May be required to work with and mentor students during shifts
- Mandatory floating to similar care settings within the hospital or affiliates as operationally required
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays during the contract
- RTO policy allows auto-approval for up to 5 days off
- Training and support provided for all unit and floating assignments
- First-time travelers are accepted and encouraged to apply
- Active IN or Compact RN license required at the time of consideration
- Current certifications in BLS and ACLS (AHA or RQI)
- Minimum 18 months to 2 years of recent PCU or similar experience required
- Graduation from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program is required
- Proficient in cardiac monitoring and specialized PCU procedures as listed
- Experience with Cerner EMR is required
- Ability to participate in charge nurse coverage if needed
- Must be willing to precept or have students shadow as part of teaching hospital environment
- Perm or PRN employees must be away from IU Health for at least 12 months before becoming eligible as a traveler
