American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position in an acute care setting with night shifts and telemetry interpretation required.
Responsibilities- Work in an acute hospital setting on a 49-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit
- Patient population includes CHF, COVID, respiratory, GI, diabetics, post-cath, total joint replacement, and telemetry cases
- Patient ratio is 1:5 with nurse aides at 1:10-15
- Requires reading and interpreting basic telemetry strips and caring for some CVA and TIA patients
- Use of BiPAP, CPAP, and standard telemetry monitoring equipment
- Cerner EMR is used on the unit
- Shift is 12-hour nights with self-scheduling finalized by management
- Weekend requirement is two weekends per four weeks
- Holiday coverage required for Christmas, New Year's, and Thanksgiving (combination of days/eves)
- First to float and may float to East Campus or PCU if qualified
- No on-call requirements
- Responsibilities include providing direct nursing care to a diverse Med/Surg Telemetry population and performing basic and advanced patient assessments
- RNs are required to interpret telemetry monitor strips and sign documentation once per shift
- No titratable drips required except administration of Cardizem at a set rate
- Team support includes charge nurse, house supervisor, and nurse aides on unit
- One shift of orientation provided before starting patient care duties
- Navy blue scrubs are required
- RNs will be tested on sterile technique for Foley catheter and central line dressing changes on the first day of orientation
- Failure of required exams results in disqualification from assignment for 6 months
- Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum two years of recent RN experience in Med/Surg Telemetry
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
- Ability to pass a dysrhythmia exam with a minimum score of 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing
- Ability to interpret tele strips and document at least once per shift
- Cerner experience preferred due to limited orientation
- Cannot have been directly employed (FT, PT, or PRN) at any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility in the past year
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Driver's license required for verification
- Requires two professional references: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years
