The Cardiovascular Surgeon provides specialized surgical care for patients with heart and great vessel diseases, performing complex procedures such as bypass grafting and valve repair. The surgeon ensures adherence to clinical standards, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance in a hospital setting.
The Cardiovascular Surgeon provides comprehensive surgical care for patients with diseases of the heart and great vessels. This role includes evaluation, diagnosis, operative and perioperative management of patients requiring cardiovascular surgical interventions, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesEvaluate and manage patients with complex cardiovascular conditions requiring surgical intervention
Perform cardiovascular surgical procedures, including coronary artery bypass grafting, valve repair and replacement, and other open or minimally invasive cardiac and vascular surgeries consistent with training and privileges
Provide perioperative and postoperative management, including critical care oversight as appropriate
Participate in emergency and on-call surgical coverage
Collaborate with cardiology, anesthesia, critical care, perfusion services, nursing, and allied health professionals
Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences and surgical planning meetings
Manage surgical complications and postoperative recovery
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
Participate in quality improvement, outcomes tracking, and patient safety initiatives
Supervise and educate residents, fellows, and advanced practice providers, as applicable
Comply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school
Completion of an accredited cardiothoracic or cardiovascular surgery residency or fellowship program
Board-eligible or board-certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery or Cardiovascular Surgery
Ability to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensure
DEA registration or eligibility
Expertise in cardiovascular surgical techniques and perioperative management
Strong clinical judgment and technical surgical skills
Ability to work effectively in high-acuity, time-sensitive environments
Excellent communication and leadership skills
Commitment to quality, safety, and evidence-based care
Hospital operating rooms, intensive care units, and outpatient clinics
Participation in call coverage, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required
Ability to stand for extended periods during surgical procedures
Manual dexterity and stamina for complex operative cases
Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for operative and patient care environments
