Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit night shift position requiring an active IL license and prior neuro and travel experience.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 54-bed Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit within an acute care setting
• Patient population includes those with stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and neuroscience conditions, with some medical overflow
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 days and 1:5-6 nights
• Utilizes Epic EMR and Philips telemetry monitors, with nurses not required to interpret strips independently
• 12-hour night shifts (1900-0700), with every other weekend and every other holiday required
• Floating required in rotation with the staff, with full assignments on general units and limited duties when floated elsewhere
• Charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7 for support
• Primary responsibilities include caring for complex neuro patients, titrating heparin drips, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
• RNs may provide high flow oxygen therapy for stable patients as needed
• Patient care techs and nurse aides provide support, with ratios varying by shift
• Unit orientation includes two days with a preceptor and educator
• No call or standby requirement
• No specific scrub color, but tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings allowed while on duty
• COVID vaccination is not required
• Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted at a local rate

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience
• Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Must have prior travel nurse experience (first-time travelers will not be considered)
• Prior dedicated neuro unit experience required
• Level 1 trauma experience required
• Experience with heparin titration based on PTT is needed
