American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position on night shift, requiring AZ or compact license and recent Level 1 Trauma ICU experience.
Responsibilities- Work in a 32-bed Neuro ICU within an acute care, Level 1 Trauma hospital setting
- Care for critical patients with neurological diagnoses including cranial surgeries, brain tumor removals, ablations, brain biopsies, and complex spine surgeries
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:2 in ICU; floating to Tele units may require management of up to 4:1 patient ratio
- Uses Cerner EMR and Phillips telemetry monitors; ventilator care required
- Scheduled for 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a), including 4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks and coverage for 2 of the 4 major holidays
- Floating required between all ICU and Telemetry units, with travelers prioritized for float assignments
- Two-shift unit-based orientation provided
- Responsibilities include managing patients post complex neurosurgery and providing neurocritical care
- Will complete SIMs Lab for Foley insertion and, except for NyICU assignments, central line dressing changes; pass/fail testing on maintaining sterile field during orientation
- Must be comfortable floating to Medical-Surgical Telemetry floors where assignment ratios will differ
- Charge nurse is available but does not take a patient load
- Team includes 24/7 respiratory therapy and pharmacy support
- Scrub color for Neuro ICU is steel grey; natural hair color and no facial piercings required, men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Not accepting first-time travelers for this assignment
- Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of application
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years ICU experience in a large (450+ bed) facility
- Level 1 Trauma ICU experience required
- 3 to 6 months prior travel nursing experience required
- Proficiency with external ventricular drain (EVD) management and strong neuro assessment skills required
- Experience with ICP monitoring required
- Ability to pass Dysrhythmia exam and sterile technique test during orientation (2 attempts allowed)
- Must meet 50-mile radius rule based on driver's license; local candidates not eligible for travel rates
- Candidates must not have been directly employed by the health system within the past year
