American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ER Holding unit float position requiring PCU experience, NIH certification, and adaptability to varying patient acuity.
Responsibilities- Work on an ER Holding unit in a hospital setting
- Care for patients ranging from med-surg (MS) to PCU/stepdown and ICU levels of acuity
- Unit size can fluctuate from 4 to 8–10 beds depending on patient census
- Staffing and patient ratios vary by acuity, with typical ratios of 1:4–6 and up to 1:5-6
- Boarding unit for stable patients from the ED awaiting discharge or inpatient placement
- Team nursing model with RN/LPN or RN/CNA based on unit need
- Float position with required floating to inpatient PCU units and other locations within the hospital or affiliate hospitals
- Night shift position with options for 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call requirement
- Cerner EMR experience required
- Support a team-based nursing approach, providing care in collaboration with LPNs or CNAs as needed
- Must be comfortable delegating and working within a varied acuity environment
- RTO of up to 5 days will be auto-approved; additional or specific RTO requests may be subject to approval
- Requirement to work at least 2 out of the 3 major holidays
- Any previous permanent or PRN employees must have a 12-month separation before consideration as a traveler
- Travelers may float within hospital or to affiliated hospitals as required
- Active IN or Compact RN license in hand by start date
- Graduate from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program
- 2 years direct nursing experience, including PCU setting
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications (AHA or RQI accepted)
- Minimum 18 months experience in relevant unit types
- Cerner EMR proficiency required
- No local candidates accepted for ER positions
- First-time travelers not accepted for this position
