American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN to join a Cardiovascular ICU team at a Level I trauma center, requiring current AZ or compact RN licensure and strong critical care skills.
Responsibilities- Work in a 24-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit within an acute care hospital
- Level I trauma hospital with very high acuity patients including cardiac surgery recovery, lung transplants, and advanced cardiac procedures
- Patient ratios are typically 1:1 or 1:2, with some floating to tele units at a 4:1 ratio
- Common diagnoses include post-cardiac surgery, IABP, CRRT, ECMO, thoracic procedures, TAVR, and lung/heart transplants
- Uses Cerner EMR, with Philips telemetry monitoring
- 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a) with 3 weekend shifts required per 4-week period and holidays per rotation
- Mandatory float to other ICUs and telemetry units, including to Westgate campus if needed
- Team includes charge nurses without patient assignments and 2 PCTs per shift at high census
- Travel nurses are the first to float per unit policy
- Expect to participate in frequent bedside procedures such as bronchoscopy, Swan-Ganz insertion, and epidurals
- Sterile technique and competency in basic bedside procedures are strictly enforced, with pass/fail testing on day one
- First day SIMs Lab assessment is mandatory, and failure to pass on second attempt results in ineligibility for 6 months
- Must comply with dress code including navy scrubs, natural hair color, no facial piercings, and clean shave for fit testing if male
- Rotation through lifts, restraints, and wound care equipment is educational during orientation
- Strong team support with intensivists and pharmacy available 24/7
- Must maintain permanent residence at least 50 miles from the facility
- Active and current AZ or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU nursing experience required, CVICU or Level I trauma experience strongly preferred
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; CCRN preferred
- Must pass a basic or advanced dysrhythmia exam prior to offer, with two attempts permitted
- Strong IV skills required as no IV team is available
- Must pass a SIMs Lab skills assessment for sterile Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on day one of orientation
- Ability to float as assigned to other intensive care and telemetry units
- Copy of valid driver’s license required
- 2 professional references (one supervisor from past 12 months and one peer or supervisor from past 3 years) required
- Applicants may not have been directly employed by CHI/Dignity/CommonSpirit within past year
